History
Krav maga translated means "contact combat" and was first developed in Bratislava Czechoslovakia in the 1930's by Hungarian-Israeli Imi Lichtenfeld who was trained in boxing, wrestling and was a proficient street fighter.
Imi Lichtenfeld created the practical martial art of Krav maga to teach fellow Jews how to quickly learn to efficiently defend themselves during riots that threatened the jewish population of Bratislava in the 1930's.
Combining his skills he developed the base art of the Krav Maga style.
In the 1940's
Imi Lichtenfeld served in the Czech legion then immigrated to Israel, and was commissioned to teach Krav maga to Israeli Defense Force, who went and developed his teachings further into modern Krav Maga. Krav maga is still used by IDF, and also the Israeli special forces, Israeli military and Israeli secret service organizations such as Mossad and Shin Bet.
