Pericardium (TCM)
Pericardium (Hand Jueyin) 9 meridian pressure points
Direction of meridian - Chest to hand, qi moves in a downward direction
Emotion that disrupts Fire element - Over-Joyful
The pericardium protects the heart in both the physical world and in the emotional world covering and supporting the heart from all angles.
More about the Pericardium and Sanjiao Fire Element.
TCM - Pericardium Diseases
Pericardium Yin/Yang deficiency and excess, mania, excessive joy
Pericardium protects the heart from excessive emotions and shock
The sanjiao distributes heartfelt emotions and small intestine information
Mental Process and Emotional Imbalances (what to look for)
The pericardium's job is to protect the heart and the emotions, it acts as metaphysical cover to shield and save the heart from being psychologically pieced by mental and emotional agitation. Awareness is the watch word for the pericardium, being aware of trickery from false flattery, and being duped by false love-words to gain a confidence.
The pericardium is where self-identity is developed to deal with isolation encouraging self-realization which leads to promoting the holistic skill-ability of letting-go to find balance and harmony within the fire element.

"Over joy impairs the heart, fear subdues joy"
Brief Pericardium Western Medical Anatomy and Actions
The pericardium is a double-walled sac which encloses the heart and roots of blood vessels. The pericardial sac consists of two layers, a serous layer, and a fibrous layer enclosing the pericardial cavity which contains a lubricating pericardial fluid.
The pericardium fixes the heart to the mediastinum (central space of the thoracic cavity), the mediastinum could prevent blood volume overload heart growth (enlarged heart from high blood pressure/volume), and can encourage protection against cross-infection from other organs, whilst providing lubrication of the heart movement.
Pericardium disorders
Acute pericarditis (inflammation), recurring pericarditis, chronic pericarditis, pericardial effusion (excess fluid between the heart and pericardium), hemopericardium (blood in the pericardial sac), pericardium calcification, fibrosis, milk spots, cysts, pneumopericardium, rheumatic adhesions.
Sanjiao (TCM)
Triple Warmers - Sanjiao (Hand Shaoyang) 23 meridian pressure points
Direction of meridian - Hand to head, qi moves in a upward direction
Emotion that disrupts Fire element - Over-Joyful
The sanjiao keeps and controls the balanced transformation and transportation of water energy that flows between the lower, middle and upper parts of the body encouraging a team coordinated effort
between all the parts (jiao's).

Triple Warmers Yin/Yang deficiency and excess
Pericardium protects the heart from excessive emotions and shock
The sanjiao distributes heartfelt emotions and small intestine information
Mental Process and Emotional Imbalances (what to look for)
The Triple Burners psychologically allows communication between the upper part of the body (yang) and the lower part of the body (yin), therefore if psychosomatic (sexual, physical, mindful) subconscious illness (loss of voice, infertility and sometimes pain) is present the dysfunction could indicate that the sanjiao's metaphysical connection has been disconnected from communicating and receiving support from the other meridians, its energy is tainted and the triple warmers qi energy will need to connect and realigned with the meridian system, to find a connected level of holistic balance.
"Over joy impairs the heart, fear subdues joy"
Brief Sanjiao Western Medical Anatomy and Actions
Sanjiao (san means three and jiao means burn) or triple warmer is not a recognized organ in a western medical sense, but according to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is located in, and divides the torso into three spaces.
Upper Burner - Thorax
The upper organ/burner is located with the heart and lungs (thorax) governing respiration, whilst regulating the distribution of protective energy (wei qi) to the protect the body from the surface.
Middle Burner - Abdomen
The middle organ/burner is located with the stomach, spleen, and pancreas (abdomen), extracting, distributing nourishing energy extracted from food and fluids (Gu qi).
Lower Burner - Pelvis
The lower burner is located with the liver, kidney, bladder, and large and small intestines (pelvis), separating the pure from the impure of digestion whilst absorbing nutrients, separating and eliminating solid and liquid wastes.
Huang Ti Sun Wen
'The Upper Burner controls intake, the middle burner controls transformation, the Lower Burner controls elimination.'
What it does
The Triple Burners could anatomically equate with the hypothalamus which regulates base autonomic functions such as appetite, digestion, fluids balance, body temperature, heartbeat and blood pressure.
When energy rises from food it "disperses" into the chest to mingle with breath qi, turning into a fine spray/ steam, and as it falls through the body becomes dense, turning into a qi rain flowing through the meridian.
